Bielsa to Barcelona 4 7 16

We took one final shot in Bielsa—this one from our room at the Parador de Bielsa. We were very close to the Pyrenees.

View along the River Segre in Lleida. The Prince of Viana Bridge, opened in 2010, is in the background.

The remains of the Castle of La Zuda. It was a citadel protecting the city. Documentation on the castle dates from the 9th century.

Once in Barcelona, our guide suggested a quck bus tour before a walking tour later in the day. We passed the Venetian Towers, similar to the campanile of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. These towers serve as the entrance to the exhibition area named Fira de Barcelona where many trade fairs are held.

We passed through the area of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. The white tower was built for the transmission of television coverage from the Olympics. The tower also functions as a gigantic sundial.

Our final bus tour stop was at this lookout at the Plaça de Carlos Ibáñez. We could view Barcelona in all directions.

After we checked into the hotel, our tour leader, Africa, took us on a brief walking tour of Barcelona. The city was very crowded. Here in the Plaça de Catalunya, we encountered lots of balloons and giant bubbles.

Barcelona has a little of everything including this person of unknown gender, beckoning passersby to visit the Erotic Museum.

In the background, we could see the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia. We returned here for Sunday Mass before we left for Madrid.
We left Bielsa in the morning and headed to Barcelona by way of Lleida (Lérida) where we stopped for lunch.
