Leon to Bilbao 4 2 16

As we left Leon, we passed by the bullfight ring. The killing of bulls at these rings is increasingly being banned in Spain.

At Santander, one of our first sites was Palacio de Deportes de Santander, a 6,000 seat arena for basketball and handball.

The three ships were created in memory of Vital Alsar, sailor of Santander. There are three galleons he used for his expedition on the Atlantic Ocean, commemorating the expedition of Spanish explorer, Orellana.

The raft vessel is a replica of boat Alsar used to cross the Pacific in the 1970s. The artist, Salvador Dali, made a sail for the ship.
In the morning, we traveled north to Bilbao stopping at mid-day at Santander for both a tour and lunch. At our luncheon spot, our local guide introduced us to his grandmother from France, celebrating her 90th birthday that day at the restaurant.
